Different Types of Game Testing Techniques

The process of game testing has a crucial role in the entire process of game development. Only on the basis of the report generated by the testing team, it is determined whether a game is fit for launch or not. Nowadays the testing part has been well analysed as the competition in each category of gaming has increased tremendously. This kind of testing process gives completeness to the game without which somehow minute errors will be left behind leading to failure of the project.

In this article, let us know about game testing and the different types of techniques involved in it.

1) Combinatorial Testing:

For the purpose of taking test cases and for commercial software testing needs this is the most recommended method of testing. By the method of applying combinations, the efficiency of the process is doubled along with reducing the expense of the process. With this test, it helps to roof all possible combinations and separate all the attributes that look varied in each testing. The combinations are generated with several parameters inside a game which helps for system-generated reports.

2) Clean Room Testing:

Almost no or a negligible number of errors will be made with this type of testing process. This method is most suitable where the motive is to create gaming software that has a high level of reliability. Different mathematical combinations and reasoning are applied here for generating the test case report. The formal specification of the game which needs to be tested is followed by the programming stage.

3) Functionality Testing:

The functionality test is mainly used to check the gaming experience and note the bugs or errors that appear during the gameplay. The testers check whether the game is performing based on the documentation and programming. The method is generally a complex process that includes audio and visual related bugs along with graphic design and gameplay. All kinds of functionalities such as installation, app performance, social networking features etc are validated with this method of testing.

4) Compatibility Testing:

This type of testing primarily focuses on checking whether the game is compatible with the software and hardware attributes that the device is developed with. The mobile app performance test is evaluated based on this method if game testing. It shows how the app responds to several devices with specifications. Different test environments are created to check the compatibility such as User Interface on multiple devices, readability etc.

5) Ad hoc Testing:

This is a random testing methodology where the testing is performed in an unspecific portion of the application. No documentation assistance is used for this method and there are higher chances of finding hidden bugs in the application.

These are the most commonly used methods of game testing and are implemented in game development companies that never compromise on the quality of their games. Infocom Studios have been seriously performing game testing activities to ensure the games developed by the team has better functionalities and performance.
